Happy Camper for Sunday, March 1, 2020

Don Fox of Washington was excited when Rhan Honjiyo asked him to push the buttons and verify the “early overs” (sailboats who cross the starting line prematurely) Thursday during the Nawiliwili Yacht Club’s Shakedown Series Race No. 3 (did he go last week when it was windy and rainy?). Don said he’s got just a couple of more weeks here before he has to get Amos (he’s a mule) ready for Easter when Amos carries Jesus back in Washington.

Congratulations to Alan Akaka (he’s probably staying on for the Aloha Music Camp) on a great Fifth annual Steel Guitar Festival that opened with Kila Pila (how many had instruments on their table at Duke’s for the kanikapila?). Malie Jamawan was waiting on Sabra Kauka to enjoy the jam.

Alan said he was proud of Heu‘i Bandmann who got to perform, Friday along with Ethan Goore of the Big Island before bringing her own two students, Ginger Kamalei Hilliard and Ki‘ileiah Jeffries up to play. Edee Bandmann came to watch her daughter play, too.

Barbara Gusman of the Sheraton Kaua‘i at Coconut Beach said the Aloha Music Camp runs Monday through Saturday, with the camp’s artistic director Keola Beamer hosting Beamer ‘Ohana Night Wednesday. More information on the camp can be found at www.alohamusiccamp.org.
