Happy Camper for Sunday, May 1, 2022

Happy May Day! Today is the official May Day is Lei Day!

If you hurry, you might be able to enjoy viewing the Kaua‘i Museum’s Walter and Irmalee Pomroy Lei Contest (Marina Pascua said the Kaua‘i Family and Community Education members will be helping people make lei, too) that ends by 1 p.m. at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort Lihu‘e ballroom. And double hurry if keiki want to participate in La Lei contest for the young ones…this starts at 9 a.m.

Happy birthday, Kaua‘i High School coach Darianne Curtis, who spent her day at the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation track and field championships (the high school sporting world’s version of Lei Day as all coaches had lei from their school’s athletes!), where Red Raider Emma Burgess broke a KIF record in the 3,000-meter run (Kevin Cadiente and Chris Ang wanted to know who would win a 400 dash between Keith Burgess, Kevin, and Chris).

Missing in Polynesia haven’t even caught their breath from the Merrie Monarch. They’re here for a couple more hours since setting up at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e from Friday afternoon.

Kudos to ParTea for getting the clearance to open the new shop with expanded options for the boba tea, ice cream and bubble waffle and, now, hot snacks, too. Just another reason to go check out the food court after the Pau Hana Market that meets Monday afternoon from 3 p.m.
