Happy Camper for Sunday, May 7, 2023

Melissa McFerrin Warrack said this is a cultural music weekend as the Kukui Grove Center (kudos on a great field trip experience for the Kalaheo Elementary School second-graders!) celebrates Cinco de Mayo with Gypsy Spice during its Aloha Friday program. Following its Mother’s Day preview weekend, Kukui Grove welcomes Alan Akana and the Kaua‘i Steel Guitar Festival on Sunday from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Sunday is also the Kaua‘i Veterans Center Treasures event that starts at 9 a.m. for Mother’s Day shopping ideas ahead of the last-minute rush.

Kudos, Jean Souza of Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery for coordinating all those Kukui Grove Center tenants to provide a unique field trip experience for the 80 Kalaheo Elementary School (isn’t their Jack and the Giant Peach coming up, soon?) second grade students on their field trip on Friday.

Thursday, Susan Taogoshi Oshiro of Ho‘ola Lahui Hawai‘i was getting excited about the Sushi Thai food truck that parked at All Saints Gym parking lot, and Ron Morinishi of All Saints Episcopal Church and Preschool said they make hot meals (Wayne Doliente made Portuguese Bean Soup) for the relief day according to how many showers get booked by Project Vision, who will be at the May 13 Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market …no, Darnell Sugioka won’t be there, and in June, there’s no room for Project Vision … Filcom Cares is going to be lonesome.
