Happy Camper for Sunday, September 11, 2022

Kudos to Mary Pigao, Kealoha Takahashi, Donna Loo, Grace Delos Reyes (she said she can breathe again) and everyone who came out to be a part of the National Day of Service event coordinated by the county Agency of Elderly Affairs at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e (do we have an Alzheimer’s event coming up? The walk is on Oct. 1. Happy birthday, Morgan Lopez). Volunteerism isn’t always about hard work!

Kudos, Jean Souza for opening Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery (yes, there were people in there) so the Foster Grandparents program volunteers could share the limelight with their Foster Grandparents exhibit. Kupuna Ihi Kaneali‘i is p-o-ed that there hasn’t been any events where she could put faces to names on the general election ballot (Councilmember Luke Evslin was privy to that in-person squawk, admitting that he himself only connected with some of the candidates during the Kaua‘i Board of Realtors event — kudos, Nani Sadora! — where Mayor Derek Kawakami had to bow out because of off-island commitments, but gubernatorial candidate Duke Aiona and lieutenant govenor candidate Seaula Jr. Tupa‘i flew in special for the event. Janice Bond said the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center kupuna are hosting a coffee hour Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. Hope it’s ADA accessible so kupuna don’t get more upset.

OK, time to go smell the white ginger that’s been going off in front of Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i. That wasn’t on the list of plants on the National Tropical Botanical Garden online auction that ended Wednesday. Hope you didn’t miss out on that.
