Congratulations to all the volunteers on Kaua‘i for doing what you do. The massive effort of the combined volunteers make possible events like delivering food to kupuna, food distributions to people who need relief from being unemployed, and even collecting items for care packages that show appreciation to the island’s frontline workers.
Rebecca Carnate (is she an East Kaua‘i Lion or a Zonta Club of Kaua‘i member?), Randy Francisco (he represents the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce — have you gotten your Mama Lucy’s fundraising ticket yet?), Blanca Gill and her state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office crew (Karlyse Hesly is fluent in Marshallese), who volunteer to help obtain survey data and still have time to get out information on natural-disaster preparedness, COVID-19 and more. And when they’re not doing this, they’re trained contact tracers.
Mahalo for all the work you do, Kay Hill and the West Kaua‘i Lions Club (Eric Nordmeier is trying to salvage Christmas in Waimea), Sandi Sterker and Greg Williams of the Koloa Lions Club, and Darla Domingo (she got a break from doing the Kaua‘i Marathon this year), Faith Soto and all her Kaua‘i Coffee ‘ohana, including Fred Cowell, who got to talk drones with Jo Evans (do you realize she’s been doing The Kaua‘i Marathon for 12 years?)
Congratulations, too, to Trevor Christensen, who opened up the Batters Up Indoor Batting Cages just up the road from Mark’s Place and Ko Bakery in the Puhi Industrial Park. The magical place just draws smiles from coaches and batters who come out to enjoy the facility. All this fun gets even better when the Hit Trax gets installed after the COVID-19 quarantines loosen up.
