Roger Cable had an exciting week when Papa A‘u (other crew included Jeff Olsen, Andy Evans, Jan TenBruggencate and Victoria Aiu) was able to stay ahead of trouble to win the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Eric Wing Race No. 4 in Nawiliwili Harbor.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Roger was on hand with Len Milks and Matt Torry to watch Joel Morris of the Southside Golf Club fire an 82 round at The Club Kukui‘ula golf course, accomplishing a lifetime goal and admirable feat of shooting his age or lower for a round of golf. What’s next, Roger?
Another waterman, Dennis Chun’s daughter Makana was at the Grove Farm Market with mom Keiko to enjoy a sugarloaf Phrosty snack that went well with the nice weather. There’s just two weeks remaining on the Pueo Gardens (did you try the Wailua hot pepper salt yet?) student-based enterprise project. Janice Bond drove all the way to the ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center, but the Carmila Udarbe seedlings were already gone.
Ferdinand Dosono of Kaua‘i Kim Chee (have you seen the Thai won bok yet? Amy Chun said they look real good for making kim chee) said Jenalyn Abela of Manna on Wheels is one of the Abela sisters, and they’re all good at making food, and they get around, we know, they were set up at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center where Dawn Gonzales, Kira Gonzales and Cori Edmondson, all of California, were enjoying fresh coconut (I don’t think that was the knife marks from Adam Coyaso).
Isobel Storch of Lanipo Farms said she’s coming back to the marketplace after Mother’s Day after taking a break from marketing to take care of things that needed doing on the farm. And don’t forget to check out the May Day festivities Saturday when kumu hula Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza of Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani will have her performers on stage starting at noon at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.
