Happy Camper for Wednesday, August 5, 2020

What? Kyle LaBenz was not stuck in traffic; he got so excited he forgot his guitar and had to turn around to fetch it, Monday and still make it to the virtual business support piece put on by the Kaua‘i Government Employees Federal Credit Union at their soon-to-open (hang on to that date, Chantal Zarbaugh — we’ll just play the COVID-19 pandemic as it happens day by day) Kilauea Branch…mahalo, Gina Duarte of Gina’s Anykine Grinds for that pleasant surprise — best banana bread I’ve had in a long time — that came in the package of Apple Half Moons (it’s more like three-quarter moon…lol).

Sorry ‘bout dat…the stop in Waimea following the Child and Family Service Festival of Hope for Families distribution (kudos on a well-done event, Novelyn Hinazumi and CFS ‘ohana!) was unforgettable because Gina’s still had Apple Half Moons.

Kudos to Monica Belz, Chantal, and rockstar Lexi Jones (nope, she was pau work at KQNG to do the piece) for promoting and supporting the island’s businesses (Chantal said the musicians are hurting after all their gigs disappeared when COVID appeared!). The effort is more than words because Chantal and Lexi interrupted Coriena MacNeil (Kilauea Fish Market)’s fish cutting to pick up pupu and food (what? Monica didn’t eat all day?) before the taping (Lexi and Chantal make a good production team!) started on the pieces that are virtual on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m…loved that “Hi‘ilawe” piece where Nikole Keahiolalo danced to Kyle’s rendering against the Maxine Longoria mural — you gotta wait for the opening of the KGEFCU Kilauea Branch to hear the Monica story about that Classic Island Homes creation.
