Happy Camper for Wednesday, December 2, 2020

Laurie Ho is already working on getting kadomatsu (you know, the traditional Japanese New Year’s decoration with bamboo, pine and plum blossoms?) for the Pau Hana Market that is enjoyed its second Monday at Kukui Grove Center. Even Melissa McFerrin-Warrack came out of her office to get social-media photos.

New vendors like The Salty Wahine (dang, missed the brine for the Thanksgiving turkey) and Sustainable Boost (Lourdes Torres sold out of her supply of crickets).

Amber McClure (Daphne McClure said Lindsey Haraguchi-Nakayama and Amber have been schoolmates since elementary-school days so helps with the Hanalei Taro items) of Moloa‘a Bay Coffee and Chocolate missed her chance to get back to O‘ahu because the mayor’s opting out of the Safe Travels will keep her home. Daphne said she’s still going to school and had to rush off for a Zoom meeting.

Avery Kano said he’s still furloughed, but was glad because he could go to the pageant where Ki‘ilani Arruda was crowned Miss Teen USA in Tennessee. Kudos to Ki‘ilani, who had Monday proclaimed her special day by Mayor Derek Kawakami, and more kudos to Kaleo Carvalho, who did a short-order good job with the backdrop for the stage welcoming Ki‘ilani home. Mike Kano (he was at the Ki‘ilani welcome) said the this year’s Ocean Count — the whales are still on Maui — will be limited to just site leaders because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
