Happy Camper for Wednesday, December 25, 2019

Christmas is in the air, everywhere — slow down, drivers! Christmas isn’t going anywhere, fast! Kudos to Esther Estes and her West Kauai Professional and Business Association on braving the threat of inclement weather (it’s going to happen, rain or shine!) to host the annual Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade (kudos to Lezlie Yaris on bringing the Waffle Dog (Justin Cruz said he was getting to where he didn’t want to hear “waffle” during the ‘testing’ period) to the Westside following successful appearances at the Kauai Handworks Craft Fair and the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School craft fairs.

The change in traffic patterns was a perfect time to use the Tire Warehouse tire-shaped flashlight (Sharron Weber said it could’ve been better — not!) while crossing the Waimea Bridge, and mahalo Ken Morikawa for those ono mochi being passed out by Coach Beau Acoba and crew on behalf of Rep. Dee Morikawa.

Over at the Kukui Grove Center, Dolly Kanekuni had her vocals students in fine form on the last shopping night before Christmas (and where was Pat Iwasaki?) where people were already swarming the “2020” numbers outside the Macy’s mens wear shop, and the Deja Vu gift wrapping tent was bustling with activity.

Welcome back to Kauai, Jeff and Cindy Haigh! It’s time to check out the Nene Kalikimaka — weather permitting.

Merry Christmas, Kauai!
