Happy Camper for Wednesday, February 3, 2021

Risa Clemmons brought three additional pounds of garlic greens Monday during the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e (Vanna Wu of Prestige Jewelers was especially pleased with the market, and Laurie Ho in particular), where Adam Coyaso went solo at the fresh-coconut table.

But that wasn’t enough, as Risa sold out of the popular item, promising to bring even more next Monday. No wonder we had Sakda Farm making its first appearance at the Pau Hana Market. Who had the green beans, Laurie?

Elvrine Chow of Heavenly Haku (she had some of those blue monastery marbles) was deciding what was for dinner (the shopping center’s security guards automatically had Kaua‘i Family Cafe on Mondays), and Mayette Loseto demonstrated the art of bargaining with the Vietnamese customer who wiped out her mangostein. The star fruit was pure icing.

Stephen Fujii (Kawaihau opens against the Hanamaulu Hillsiders Saturday in Kapa‘a), John Ochoco had a lot of Lion talk to cover, and Amy Chun was so busy delivering paperwork she forgot to post the Chinese food for Chinese New Year (Elvrine said it’s the Year of the Metal Ox).

Kudos to Jean Souza and the dozen volunteers for successfully conducting the first Ocean Count of this year with all of the COVID-19 protocols in effect. Now, when are those whales leaving Maui and coming here?
