Happy Camper for Wednesday, January 30, 2019

Ashlei Thompson, one of four Cub Scouts in Cub Pack 148 sponsored by the Lihue Christian Church, was one of the Cubs advancing after edging out Isabel Gampon during the pack’s Raingutter Regatta Sunday.

Ashlei’s mom, Roxanne, was at the HGEA Country Store (dad Bobby said he was sleeping in the car) benefiting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life (mahalo, Sheri Amimoto for the Keith Inouye scones! Did he do the cookies, too?). Saturday, the HGEA hosted the rummage sale to benefit their Kendall Scholarship.

OK, this is the Souper Bowl weekend and Susan Pittman of Clayworks at Kilohana said they still have a few more bowls remaining for Sunday. The Gaylord’s soup is going to be spearheaded by Chef Johnny Saguid.

Melissa McFerrin-Warrack said the Kukui Grove Center will be hosting a Chinese Lion Dance starting at noon (still have about an hour before Super Bowl kickoff) Sunday to celebrate the Year of the Boar that arrives on Feb. 5.

Jean Souza said since the partial government shutdown is over (temporarily, at least), the inflatable whale will be making a brief appearance at the Kukui Grove Center, and hopefully, at some of the public libraries.
