Happy Camper for Wednesday, July 9, 2025

With Fourth of July past, attention focuses on the Koloa Plantation Days that announces its flagship historic parade will be shifting to an afternoon start with the hoolaulea at the Anne Knudsen Park overflowing into the evening hours. Maluhia Road will be closed on Saturday to address problems with the road as well as tree maintenance ahead of the Koloa Plantation Days festivities in downtown Koloa to Poipu. Arryl Kaneshiro announced that Marty Kuala (mahalo, Smash Cafe for the strawberry smoothies that hit the spot with Marty’s moopuna) will be the parade’s Grand Marshall

In the meantime, AARP Hawaii is presenting a free Augie T comedy show with a Social Security 90th anniversary special guest Congresswoman Jill Tokuda on Saturday when the doors to the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center open at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday is also the Back to School Bash (sorry, online registration is already sold out) at Kukui Grove where excitement starts from 9:30 a.m. through the four-way sponsorships by Foodservice Alliance Hawaii (they’re taking nominations for the Love’s grant awards for nonprofits … visit www.loves.com for details), Capt. Andy’s, the Sheraton Kauai Resort (home of RumFire and Lava’s), and the Blue Dolphin Charters.

Gregory von Hausch, director of the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center, said Southwest Airlines is a sponsor for the upcoming Broadway musical “RENT” that will bring the University of Hawaii at Manoa production team of 50 performers and techies to Kauai for a three-show run between Aug. 8 through 10. He’s looking for six co-sponsors to help defray the expense of getting these UH people here so we don’t need to fly to Oahu to see them on stage.
