Happy Camper for Wednesday, June 15, 2022

Kudos, Lexi Jones (Dr. Addison Bulosan was waiting to play bass for Dondi) on another nice Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market, where Garden Island Trollers Capt. Jolene Spence (their boat fishing tournament is this weekend at the Lihi!) was busy with the flying saucers (more on tap this weekend at the Kaua‘i Soto Zen Temple Zenshuji’s Obon festival!) with Alvin Tanigawa at the Hamura tent. Laurel was busy with the andagi.

Another County Council candidate, incumbent Felicia Cowden (wasn’t she peeling kalo at the Kamehameha Day Celebration, too?) was busy talking about all those keiki and laughter at the Healing Horses facility (it’s summer in full swing!) table across Elena Camat (she was doing the Grove Farm Market, too) and her Chinese pretzels.

Lexi said to wait until next month’s event because she’s going to have more candidates cruising Kress Street for people to talk story with. And, how about all those vendors in front of Rob’s Good Times Grill? They were popping, too!

More excitement is on tap when Harvey Maeda and the Kaua‘i Classic Cars do a parking-lot car show (Make A Wish Foundation just discovered this in Mililani) for Father’s Day in the UPS Store parking area at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e. Is Kelvin Moniz from the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank going to be there with Kawai Gampon and Robyn Peterson?

Wes Perreira and his Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i (there’s a rice drive going on at Safeway through June 20!) ‘ohana will be distributing food for about 300 families (hope you made your appointment) at the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center in Puhi Saturday.

And then, it’s the Kaua‘i Filipino Community Council Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Scholarship Pageant at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e, also Saturday.
