Happy Camper for Wednesday, June 5, 2019

Kudos to Jen Chahanovich and the Wilcox Health ‘ohana on a great Kids Summer Fest (we didn’t need to wait until Labor Day Breakfast to hear Dr. Monty Downs on the harmonica!) at the Kauai Marriott &Beach Club where Uncle John Kaneholani had his family entourage (including the Waimea High School — Principal Mahina Anguay’s grandson was a bike winner! — graduate who set off the pyrotechnics at the Menehune celebration) in tow.

Andy Bestwick was proud of Rudy — the Wilcox Health Chief Canine Officer — who made it through the more-than-1,400 kids, and where was Kaleo Carvalho — Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami was calling on the radio (besides triggering some of the specialty sirens) in the “last Crown Victoria” in the Kauai Police Department fleet? He (and Dr. Monty Downs) had to rush off to the Kauai Lifeguard Association’s Beach Bash that opened just down the beach walk.

Val Saiki’s anti-vaping display triggered a visitor to suggest an event of this magnitude to present safety and healthy eating before Halloween (the start of the Big Eat season, here), and Staci Gill of Canada (she’s “grandmothering” for the summer) just could not get over how well done the event was.

And, if you need something interesting, Lourdes Torres of Sustainable Boost will be doing the Chef’s Demo with the Kauai High School Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at The Kauai Culinary Market (it’s on Wednesday from 3:30 to 6 p.m.) for the Sustainable, gluten-free pancakes (they will have the mix available, too!) created by the students and put on the Kauai Marriott breakfast buffet menu by Chef Guy Higa. Go early for best parking at The Shops at Kukuiula.
