Michelle Panoke of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i Branch said Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove Center wants more kupuna to take advantage of the every-Monday Pau Hana Market.
Michelle had applications for the state Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps), and had time to check out the vendors to register them for the program, too.
Amy Chun said longan are starting to come in, and kupuna get five, $10 certificates to redeem with vendors (they gotta have the orange cards!) for farm-fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables (Justin Chen had samples of his mangoes).
KGC has a Kaua‘i Made event Friday and Saturday (Pete Alquiza said Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani will be performing Saturday at noon).
Michelle visits the farmers’ market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula this afternoon, too, after getting permission from Stacie Chiba Miguel to walk the market, not setting up a table.
Meanwhile, it was payroll Monday back in Colorado, and Mark Cornish took advantage of a quiet corner outside the Kaua‘i Museum (the Pa‘u: A Hawaiian Tradition exhibit is now available for viewing), where who didn’t notice the new statues gracing the entrance?
