Happy Camper for Wednesday, March 11, 2020

Kudos to Wendy Castillo and the St. Theresa School (Ursaline Munar needed to be there, too!) for hosting A Night in Bali that brought the delegation from the University of Hawai‘i Theatre &Dance, Asian Dance to Kaua‘i’s Westside…the hula mound was a perfect setting for the group’s presentation in the magic light of the Kekaha setting sun, and the price was right — no admission!

Ray and Diane Nitta came to visit director Kirstin Pauka who did taiko with them with Kenny Endo, and Maile Speetjens (she graduated from Kaua‘i High School) had a homecoming of sorts. Kay Koike left her camera home so she could “just be a spectator,” and Pineapple in Paradise did a surge of business before the evening chill set in.

On the other side of town, kudos to Chef Mark Oyama (he came home from Saturday night) for providing the Kiwanis of Kaua‘i a venue for their Steak Fry plate (and where was that spaghetti plate pick up?) that helped raise funds for Kiwanis scholarships, Sunday. A lot of the Kiwanis were doing double-duty because they were on hand, Saturday night during the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kaua‘i Roaring 20’s bowling fundraiser (kudos to Nicole Cowan and her ‘ohana on another great event!) where Mark’s Place also provided the food (and service, and bowling team, too).
