Happy Camper for Wednesday, March 27, 2024

Congratulations, Tomoko Ouchi (her kitty is depicted on this year’s Kaua‘i Society of Artists promotional poster!) on earning two awards — the People’s Choice Award and the special Steve Lim Award (also deemed “Best in Show” by KSA) — for her “Sumo Ramblings Vol. 4” piece.

The announcement was part of the KSA annual meeting and Meet the Artists reception on Friday where Lim said he overheard one viewer comment that Ouchi’s piece was “Not for Sale” as he combed the field for a Lim Award recipient.

Congratulations to Alissa Harman for her “I‘iwi Bird” that earned First Place Honors, Aja Wing for “Perfectly Designed &Discarded” earning second place honors and Caylin Spear for “Dolphin Guide Mermaid View” on the third place award. Kudos, too, to Charles Graybosch, a Kaua‘i Community College art instructor, on handling the tough judge’s task and great job to Primrose and Randy Naukana Rego on providing entertainment for the night’s gathering … you can still take in the Spring Show exhibit through March 29 for free from noon until 6 p.m. at the KSA gallery at Kukui Grove Center.

Toni Wass and the Kaua‘i Quilt Guild returns following this show with Shibori Artist Workshop series from April 14 through 21, followed by artist Maryann Donagher (she’s also an art teacher at Kaua‘i High School) with Teacher’s Art Workshop from April 22-28.
