Happy Camper for Wednesday, May 22, 2019

Dustin “Dusty” Plank from Ohio (and, for several months a year, of Maui) saw some interesting Field Fresh Market “aloha peppers” that look a lot like pumpkins except that they are bell peppers. With a name like “aloha peppers,” is that something that is available here? Might be something like the mgambo tree, which some people call “Maui minks” (how about “Hawaiian pussy willow?”).

Mahalo to Amy Green, who was waiting on her Uber ride at the Kauai Community Market at Kauai Community College Saturday (it’s amazing how Alan Van Zee can figure out how to have just enough juice — Saturday was great for those coolers! — to make it without leftovers), for the massive random act of kindness!

Kudos to Kevin Matsunaga of the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School media class on biting the bullet and getting the Sony camera that he was testing out at the Bandwagon/Aloha Angels Battle of the Bands! Kudos to Ron Margolis and Jeremy and Julie Hartshorn on a great event at Kauai Christian Fellowship in Poipu Saturday, where Kelvin Moniz had his Kauai Visitor Industry Charity Walk shirt on.

Brian Atendido (his sister was one of the bon dancers) and Mike Teruya were busy at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital bon dance, where Jocelyn Barriga and Lisa Aki were busy with the Kauai Special Olympics volunteers cranking out andagi (the wait line wasn’t as long as the flying saucers!). Jocelyn said they’ll be doing it when the Kauai Soto Zen hosts its bon dance May 31 and June 1, too.

OK, congratulations to all the high school graduates (and their families!) on getting to the threshold of the next step in life!
