Happy Camper for Wednesday, May 4, 2022

Don’t forget the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Mother’s Day (yes, it’s this weekend!) Orchid Sale is Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for an opportunity at all those goodies you’re only going to find on the Westside.

Of course, the proceeds help with the KVMH scholarships, too.

Happy birthday, Mahina Costa, whose parents discovered the Kukui Grove Center food court in Lihu‘e is a perfect venue for a birthday party Sunday while Jean Souza and the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery people were having fun with those wooden sailing canoes. Have you every seen waves collide?

Happy Marilyn Matsumoto Day!

That was Monday when Mayor Derek Kawakami set aside a special day to celebrate the nearly 30 years of service Marilyn (and her husband, and the Melanie Okamoto Na Kupuna Council folks) provided for Kaua‘i’s kupuna at the Kaua‘i Senior Centers (yes, a lot of the Kaua‘i Senior Softball people belong to this, too), and mahalo, Robert Medeiros, for letting this VIP kupuna enjoy her special day at the Kukuiolono Park pavilion!

And, don’t forget those Kaua‘i Special Olympic athletes who return to Vidinha Stadium Saturday along with the Kaua‘i Police Department Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run presented by First Hawaiian Bank.

OK, Kaua‘i teachers (the fancy word for this is “educator”), don’t forget your free McDonald’s medium coffee for Teachers Appreciation Week. Just bring your school ID.
