Hawaii Children’s Theatre’s ‘The Music Man’ comes this fall

LIHUE — The Hawaii Children’s Theatre announced its fall production of “The Music Man” through a public preview on Saturday at the Kukui Grove Center food court area during the weekend where the shopping center featured a weekend of music and birds.

The Music Man, directed and choreographed by Carol Culver, will play at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall from Nov. 21 and run through Nov. 30 on Fridays, Saturdays and a Sunday matinée. Performance schedules include Fridays starting at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m.

According to Debra Blachowiak of the HCT, the benefit show for the food banks — both the Kauai Independent Food Bank and the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai — is the Nov. 23 matinée where show attendees can contribute to either of the food banks with nonperishable food or cash contributions.

Tickets can be reserved now online through the HCT website at www.hctkauai.org.

Culver, as the director and choreographer, has brought her Broadway experience and creative vision to many of HCT’s most memorable shows, including “Matilda the Musical,” “Mary Poppins,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and “Seussical.” HCT said this year’s fall production promises to be one of the most exciting.

This year’s cast blends seasoned performers with rising stars from Kauai’s youth theatre community, including Jarhett Gaines taking the lead as the charismatic Harold Hill and Jacyn Fain as Marian Paroo. Carla Kirk is Mrs. Paroo, and four talented young actors who have grown up with HCT — Fia Gaines, Caitlin Plowman, Adam Nelson and Finnegan Warrack — are double-cast as the spirited teen couple Zaneeta Shinn and Tommy Djilas. Rounding out the cast of about 50 performers are familiar favorites Ron Soderstrom, Max Richardson, Tom and Gaylen Worthen, and numerous others.

“The Music Man” tells the story of fast-talking salesman Harold Hill, who brings trouble and transformation to the small town of River City, Iowa. With an abundance of comedy, romance and heart, the production is full of unforgettable tunes like “Seventy-six Trombones,” and “Till There Was You.” The show is rated “G” — perfect for the entire family — and is filled with professional-level singing, acting and huge Broadway-style dance numbers.

The Hawaii Children’s Theatre is proud to be a nationally awarded theater company. HCT was recently honored with the prestigious 2024-25 Stand for the Arts Award from Spectrum and Ovation TV. This recognition underscores HCT’s commitment to excellence, accessibility and the power of the arts to enrich the lives of Kauai’s keiki and community.
