LIHU‘E — The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau from 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, to 6 p.m. Monday, with southwest winds expected with speeds from 20 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60, especially over and downwind of terrain, according to a county press release.
The warning means sustained, strong winds with even stronger gusts are happening or imminent.
All areas are susceptible to strong winds within heavy showers.
Hazardous driving conditions due to powerful cross winds will pose a serious risk for drivers, especially for lightweight and high-profile vehicles. Loose outdoor items should be brought inside or secured properly.
