Hiker airlifted from Kalalau on Sunday

KALALAU – Firefighters airlifted an injured 20-year-old California woman from Kalalau Beach on Sunday morning.

First responders were notified of the injured hiker at approximately 7:40 a.m.. However, due to dangerous weather conditions, Kaua‘i Fire Department Rescue 3 personnel could not immediately respond by helicopter to the remote location.

Once the weather cleared, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 flew to Kalalau Beach and located the woman who had sustained a leg injury.

The hiker was airlifted to Princeville Airport where awaiting KFD Station 1 Hanalei firefighters and AMR medics provided additional support and treatment.
