Holiday Classic tips off Tuesday

PUHI — The annual Isle Hoops Holiday Classic basketball tournament kicks off at 3:50 p.m. today at the Wilcox Gymnasium on the Island School campus.

“We had to add an extra day to the tournament because of the overwhelming response,” said Jack Viohl, who along with Corey Dobashi coordinates the tournament. “There is also the change in the Kauai Interscholastic Federation schedule that affects play.”

The Isle Hoops Holiday Classic participants range from Grade 5 through Grade 8 in both boys and girls divisions.

Today, the DownTown takes on Papalina followed by the Ballers taking on Westside starting at 4:40 p.m. Seven games are on tap for the Wilcox Gymnasium for today, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Saturday features 12 games, and the tournament concludes Sunday with 15 games starting from 8:10 a.m. The championship contests start from 4:40 p.m.

“There are 25 teams participating for a total of 55 games,” Viohl said.

The five-day tournament is being sponsored by Domino’s with each team guaranteed to play four games.
