HSJGA begins second-round of Match Play tournament

LIHU‘E –The Hawai‘i Junior Golf Association Match Play Tournament that benefits The Hawai‘i Foodbank began its second-round Wednesday afternoon.

The first round results for the HSJGA Match Play Tournament benefited The Hawai‘i Foodbank. HSJGA raised over $5,000 from the tournament.

The first week had over 50 matches played at golf courses across the state, with kids ranging from ages 7-18.

Kaua‘i had six participants in the HSJGA match play tournament, including Brooklyn Cullen, and Heiley Kikuchi (7-12 girls’ bracket), Niki Upson, and Kade Kikuchi (13-18 boys’ bracket), and Kiara Johnson, and Jessica Hreljac (13-18 girls’ bracket).

Round two matches began Wednesday and run through next Wednesday, July 15.

The following are the results for Kaua‘i:

Kaua’i Results

Kiara Johnson, Lihue (age 14) def. Jessica Hreljac Lihue (age 17) 4 & 3 at Wailua GC on July 3.

Heiley Kikuchi, Lihue (age 12) def. Brooklyn Cullen, Kilauea (age 10) 9 & 8 at Wailua GC on July 3.

Kade Kikuchi, Lihue (age 14) def. Nikki Upson (age 17), Princeville playing best of 3 at Wailua GC.

*Match 1 happened July 5 with Kade winning in 21 holes

*Match 2 happened July 6 with Kade winning 4 & 3
