Hurricane outlook on Wednesday

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will announce its outlook for the 2019 Central Pacific hurricane season during a news conference on Wednesday at the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology.

Speakers will address the expected activity for the season, which begins on June 1 and runs through Nov. 30.

“NOAA’s outlook provides emergency managers, water managers, state and local officials, and the public with valuable information so they will be prepared to make effective decisions to protect life and property,” according to a press release.

Last season, six cyclones — a category that includes depressions, storms and hurricanes — passed through the basin with each reaching hurricane strength at one point. The preseason prediction called for three to six tropical cyclones in the Central Pacific.
