Following are this week’s synopses of shows on KBFD TV, which televises Korean dramas with English subtitles.
Weekly Update
The Korean community in Hawai‘i celebrated the 120th Anniversary of Korean Immigration to the U.S. on Jan. 13. The first Koreans to the U.S. entered Hawai‘i on the USS Gaelic carrying just over 100 Korean Immigrants to work on the plantation fields.
The Korean American Foundation Hawai‘i held a banquet last Friday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village with dignitaries from South Korea and honoring the descendants of the independence fighters in Hawai‘i.
Many plantation workers donated 30 to 50 percent of their pay to help Korea gain independence. A rare photo exhibit was displayed at the event with colored photos from post Korean War provided by Marie Ann Yoo.
The Korean American Foundation Hawai‘i supports many cultural events to promote Korean culture, heritage and history.
Blessed by the Sea Episode 33 & 34; Episode 35 & 36 (Sunday)
Today, 6:40 p.m.: Schemes to bring down Poong-do from the chairman’s position is in the works. Chung-yi starts working at Jubo to protect Poong-do. Pil-du is caught off-guard when Ji-na refuses cooperate. Chairwoman Ma asks Chung-yi to work at Jubo but Chung-yi is hesitant.
Today, 7:45 p.m.: Chung-yi’s work at Jubo begins. She introduces herself to Poong-do as his assistant. Poong-do is furious. Shi-joon continues his search for his child and seeks out Ji-na only to be met by her hysterics. Ji-na steals records from the orphanage. She finds out her child’s been adopted.
Hospital Ship Episodes 13 & 14 (Wednesday) Episode 15 & 16 (Thursday)
Monday, 6:45 p.m.: Many obstacles are overcome by teamwork of the medical hospital. They become closer as they treat their pains. Eun Jae’s heart which was dry as the desert wind get swept up by Hyun. Eun Jae and Hyun enjoy lunch on Hyun’s birthday.
Tuesday, 6:50 p.m.: Eun Jae is not familiar with the feeling of love. Eun Jae and Hyun’s turbulent love face yet another curve ball. Young Eun, Hyun’s ex-girlfriend, shows up, shaking Eun Jae’s heart yet again.
Secret House Episodes 65& 66 (Wednesday) Episode 67 & 68 (Thursday)
Wednesday, 7:45 p.m.: Tae-hee picks a fight with Joo-hong when she moves in. Tae-hyung comes down on his sister to protect Joo-hong. Ji-hwan tries to get links to his birth father through Chairman Nam.
Thursday, 7:45 p.m.: Sook-jin asks Tae-hee if she ever wondered why she was so cold toward Tae-hee. Tae-hee replies that she did the DNA test. Ji-hwan asks Chairman Nam about his father catching him in surprise. Inquisitive questions make Chairman Nam wonder about Ji-hwan’s identity.
Gwanggaeto Episodes 5 (Friday); Episodes 6 (Saturday)
Friday, 7:50 p.m.: After stabbing Damdeok, Mo Duru and Feng Bao escape from Yodongseong and Houyan’s morale rises. Commander Ko Mu sends a secret message to Prime Minister Gae Yeonsu via his daughter. Houyan prepares a full-on assault on the southern gate of Yodongseong.
Saturday, 7:50 p.m.: After repelling Houyan’s large army, Commander Ko Mu and his generals triumphantly return to the capital. Murong Chui is enraged at demands for an apology but decides to send his son Murong Bao as an envoy. After seeing the people praise Damdeok, Gae Yeonsu insists that Damdeok should be punished instead of being rewarded.
