Kamden finds par in Princeville wind

PRINCEVILLE — Kauai High School golfer Kamden Nii was the sole golfer to shoot par in the windy conditions Saturday at the Princeville Makai Golf Club during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf match.

Kamden fired an even-par 36 on the front nine, chased by his brother Kanoa carding a three-over 39 at the crossing. Kamden continued with a 45 on the back nine to finish with an 18-hole 81, the best score of the KIF field that was whittled back due to Kapaa High School having its prom.

He led the Kauai High School golfers to preserve its string of victories with a team total of 336. The Raiders were followed by Island School, topped by Niki Upson’s 89 (45-44), at 420, and Waimea High School, led by Nick Esposo’s 87 (41-46), at 426.

On the girls’ tees, Kauai High School’s Tyra Oshiro (40-44) and Taryn Taguma (43-41) each finished with 84’s to lead the Red Raider ladies to a team 257. Kauai was the sole KIF girls team.

The KIF hosts its final golf round of the season, Saturday at the Wailua Golf Course when the first groups tee off from noon. The qualifying rounds for the state meet will take place on April 26 and 27 at the Wailua Golf Course.
