HONOLULU — The Kapaa High School varsity cheer team, the reigning Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation champions, were recently invited to attend and participate at the first ever mass National Cheer Association Skillz Camp held on Oahu at the Hawaii Pacific University’s Shark Tank.
The camp consisted of a skills only based instruction with each team being privately coached by a highly credentialed staff member, said Kapaa Coach Roseanna Jerves.
“Kapaa came away with a full team All-American Nomination from NCA staff,” Jerves said. “Those selected were required to complete top skills with mastery, and no falls. The Warriors came out on top with 6/8 UCA All-American awardees. Additionally, three of eight were selected as pin participants.”
Jerves said those All Americans are given the opportunity to travel abroad and represent NCA, and Varsity Brands Cheer.
Piper Omo of Moanalua High School earned the camp’s Top All American honor.
Kapaa team members attending and participating at NCA Skillz included Lilinoe Jerves, Lexi Telles, Jasmine Pablo, Keani Taniguchi, Isaiah Konishi Leia Jerves, Lanakila Jerves and Dustin Jerves.
Missing from NCA, team members Ashlei Thompson, Aiyanna Amaral and Taalia Geenleaf headed to Oahu on Friday to attend USA Showtime camp at the Iolani Schools campus.
