Kapa‘a boys, Kaua‘i girls win in Wailua wind

WAILUA — Kapa‘a High School’s Jayvin Raquel and Island School’s Garrett Hadley finished tied for the lead at 79 on Saturday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf rounds contested at the windy Wailua Golf Course.

Raquel led the Kapa‘a boys past the Kaua‘i team that finished the Saturday round at 340 over the Red Raider 354 team total.

Waimea High School filled in the third spot at 379, followed by Island School finishing at 393.

On the girls course, Kaua‘i High School, led by Amalia Abigania and Leilani Redondo combining for 184 strokes, topped the girls team scoring at 278, followed by the Lady Warriors, led by Juliette O’Shaughnessy’s 102, who posted a 325 team total.

Kaua‘i High School’s Renyn Lee finished the day with an 82 to settle in the No. 3 individualist spot.

Island School’s Christopher Jobe finished in the No. 4 spot a stroke behind Lee at 83. Jobe’s spot was followed by a three-way tie for the No. 5 spot between Cody Nii of Kaua‘i High School, Lucas Summerhays of Island School and Pohaku Ahnee Lagmay of Kapa‘a High School. Each golfer carded 84s.

On the girls course, Kaua‘i’s Amalia Abigania continued to dominate the field after getting the top 5 girls individualist honors on her 91.

She was followed two strokes back by fellow Red Raider Leilani Redondo, who carded a 93, and Sydney Ito with a 94.

Kapa‘a’s Juliette O’Shaughnessy paired with Abigania in the day’s opening group and finished with a 102, the low score for the Lady Warriors that put her fourth in the top 5.

Fellow Warrior Mehana Guy finished in the fifth spot at 104.

KIF golf continues on Saturday at the Kukui‘ula Golf Course when the first groups leave starting at noon.

Following Saturday’s round, the KIF golfers return to the Wailua Golf Course on April 19 and 20 for the 36-hole state qualifying tournament.
