Kapa‘a keglers top Bowling All-Stars

LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i High School boys bowling team — finishing the 47th Billy Tee’s Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Bowling State Tournament in ninth place, Dec. 10, with a 5,513 pinfall (a 46-pin difference from eighth place) — is the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Boys Champion, according to a KIF Bowling All-Stars announcement Monday.

Callum Meredith, one of two boys rolling for Kapa‘a High School, leads the Boys Individualist with a 228 average. He is the sole representative outside of Kaua‘i High School who placed five bowlers — two seniors, two juniors, and a freshman — on the KIF All-Stars.

Red Raider senior Shayden Peralta, rolling a 216 average, leads the Kaua‘i bowling leaders. Gian Panoy with a 152 average is the other Red Raider senior.

Kyllie Sasaki with a 205 average is one of two juniors on the All-Stars. He is joined by Shayne Shibuya with a 186 average.

Aaron Juliano with a 189 average is the sole freshman on the Boys All-Stars.

The Kapa‘a High School girls bowling team, finishing the state tournament in sixth place with a 5,146 pinfall, is the KIF champion. The Lady Warrior keglers placed four individual bowlers on the KIF Girls All-Stars, including the KIF top girl individualist Skye Tadani who sports a 178 average.

She is joined by junior Jennifer Hayakawa with a 178 average. Hayakawa topped the KIF girls showing at the state tournament by finishing 22nd, overall with a tournament average of 144 over nine games rolled at Leeward Bowl on O‘ahu.

Kailee Gorospe, a sophomore at Kapa‘a, finished the KIF season with a 157 average and makes the cut for the All-Stars along with junior Keahi Bacon who ended with a 136 average.

Irish Oriente of Waimea High School beat out Tahan Valdez of Kamehameha Schools-Maui by a single pin to capture 50th place, overall at the state tournament. Oriente joins the KIF All-Stars with a 140 average.

Mikayla Pacheco-Villanueva, a sophomore at Kaua‘i High School, rounds out the KIF Girls Bowling All-Stars with a 138 average.
