The unidentified man was traveling eastbound on a 2010 Harley Davidson on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 22, when the driver of a 2008 Toyota sedan attempted to make a left turn into Menehune Food Mart. The sedan, which was operated by a 17-year-old female from Kapa‘a, then hit the motorcycle, according to a preliminary investigation.

KPD personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. The injured motorcycle rider was taken to Wilcox Medical Center following the crash. The names of the motorcycle rider and driver of the sedan were not released.

Speed does not appear to be a factor in this crash. Toxicology reports are pending to determine if either operator was under the influence at the time of the crash. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, the department said.

The incident closed Kawaihau Road near Menehune Food Mart in both directions for more than two hours, while officers with the Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
