Kapa‘a Middle School wins at music fest

HONOLULU — The Kapa‘a Middle School Choir and ‘Ukulele Band earned four big awards during its participation at the World Strides Performing Arts 2023 Honolulu Heritage festival last month on O‘ahu.

The choir earned a silver award, and the band earned a gold award in the field of nine participating schools.

Additionally, Kapa‘a Middle School student Starlee Belmonte earned the Maestro Award for her stage presence.

“This was a prestigious award the judges nominated her for,” said Mary Lardizabal, school music director. “And, Kapa‘a Middle School earned the Spirit of Honolulu Award for representing their school and community the best of the nine participating schools,” she said.

“I’m so proud of the kids. And we had a wonderful group of chaperones. What a wonderful way to come back following four years of not traveling.”
