Kapa‘a shuts down Waimea Monday night

KAPA‘A — Kapa‘a High School’s Olivia Malafu netted a game-high 33 points Monday to lead the Kapa‘a Lady Warriors to a 70-23 win over Waimea High School during a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation varsity girls basketball game at the Bernice Hundley Gym.

There was no junior varsity contest due to Kapa‘a not being able to field sufficient players for a team and Waimea High School not having a JV team.

Following the pace of Malafu, the Lady Warriors JV upgrades had solid performances on the hardwood, where Waimea was allowed no scoring from Hazel Serapio, and Jada Nakamura stood her ground for seven points as backup to Malafu in the paint.

Waimea, despite going to the three-ball from Tristan Raposas, Hailey Mata and Shaylen Guerrero, was held to just 11 points in the first half.

Raposas finished with high-point honors for the Menehune with seven, and Katelyn Constantino, dropping a trey in the final frame, added five points.

Following Malafu’s lead, Lady Warrior Hailey Overmyer added 10 points, including a pair of three balls, and Tasia Kamoku added nine points.
