Kauai Marathon this Sunday!

The starting horn for the Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon sounds at 6 a.m. on Sunday, but events are starting to heat up this week.

Registrations are still being accepted for those events and the Wilcox Health Keiki Run online at www.thekauaimarathon.com.

Race day traffic advisories, including road closures and partial road closures, are also spelled out on the website. Because of the impact in the Koloa and Poipu areas, a Traffic Advisory tab is highlighted in red and placed predominantly on the website.

On Friday, lululemon starts things off with a yoga class on the lawn of the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort and Spa Grand Ballroom starting at 9 a.m.

This outdoor exercise opens the doors to the Wilcox Health Sport and Fitness Expo that will open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday. During the expo, runners can pick up their respective race packet information and shoe chip that electronically keeps track of participants during the race in which the first 11 miles are run together by full and half marathoners.

The sport and fitness expo also offers Kauai Marathon wear and accessories and will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom where the Kauai Coffee booth will greet attendees.

During the expo, Wilcox Health physical therapists will be available if an athlete has questions prior to the run. Therapists will also demonstrate stretches with foam rollers on demand, and provide lower leg kinesio taping while supplies last. A photo booth with a 360-degree camera will also be available.

At 10:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, Kauai Marathon Champion Tyler McCandles will offer course advice adjacent to the Kauai Coffee booth outside the expo.

Also on Friday and Saturday, Brennecke’s Beach Broiler at Poipu Beach will feature “carbo load” dinner specials.

The lululemon shake out run starting at 6 p.m. closes the Friday schedule from the lululemon shop at The Shops at Kukuiula.

Saturday morning starts with the three-mile morning fun run from 7:30 a.m. from the end of Poipu Road at the entrance to the Poipu Bay Golf Course and the public parking leading to Shipwreck Beach.

The yoga class at the lawn fronting the Grand Ballroom at the Grand Hyatt Kauai returns at 8 a.m. to open the Wilcox Health Keiki Run that takes place at the Ocean Lawn on the Poipu end of the Grand Hyatt Kauai.

At. 9 a.m., the Wilcox Health Sport and Fitness Expo opens with wikiwiki skin checks, a free 5-minute skin cancer screening, until 1 p.m. through a separate entrance behind the Kauai Coffee booth.

Starting at noon, runners can meet and greet the professional running team of Stephanie and Ben Bruce, followed by an opportunity to meet running influencers Jeremy Miller and Bree Rohrer.

On race day, the big run starts at 6 a.m. Sunday, and the finish and awards activity starts at 8 a.m. at the Koloa Landing Resort outdoor area, beachside of the resort, near the finish line.
