Kaua‘i road closures for the week of Jan. 8 – 14

KAPA‘A — The county Department of Public Works and Grace Pacific LLC announced that a portion of Kawaihau Road and Pelehu Road will be closed Monday through Friday, Jan. 9 to 13, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for clearing and grubbing, roadway excavation and sidewalk construction.

The project aims to construct a peanut-shaped roundabout, sidewalks, paved shoulders and various other roadway improvements to help improve the safety and operations of the five-way intersection of Kawaihau, Hau‘a‘ala and Mailihuna roads in Kapa‘a, and for people using multiple modes to travel efficiently and safely through them.

Wailua

• A right shoulder closure and narrowed lanes of Kuhio Highway are possible in the southbound direction between mile markers 5.7 and 6.7, in the vicinity of Leho Drive and the Kapa‘a bypass road, for the Kuhio Highway Short-Term Improvements;

• A single lane closure of Kuhio Highway is possible in the southbound direction between mile markers 5.7 and 5.9, between Kuamo‘o Road and North Leho Drive on Jan. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for utility work for Wailua bridge repairs;

• A single right lane closure of Kuhio Highway is possible in the northbound direction between mile markers 5.9 and 6.3, between Kuamo‘o Road and Lani Kai Street on Jan. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for survey work;

• A nightly, two-lane closure of Kuhio Highway is possible in the southbound direction between mile markers 6 and 6.6, in the vicinity of Kapa‘a bypass road and Kuamo‘o Road, from Sunday to Friday, Jan. 8 to 13 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for the Kuhio Highway Short-Term Improvements. Two-way traffic will be maintained by contraflow of one northbound lane;

• Portions of Wailua will have one lane closed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 and 10 to conduct surveying, including soil investigation and asphalt coring for future road resurfacing work, as follows: Haleilio Road between Eggerking and Nonou roads, Jan. 9; Waipouli Road between Olohena and Kainahola roads, and Ulu Street between Ohia Street and Olohena Road, Jan. 10.

Koloa

• Portions of Weliweli Road between Waikomo Road and Ala Kinoiki will have one lane closed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 to conduct surveying, including soil investigation and asphalt coring for future road resurfacing work.

Lihu‘e

• A single right lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in the east/northbound direction between Ahukini Road and Ehiku Street on Jan. 10, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., for fiber optic work.

Kalihiwai

• Closures on Kalihiwai Road will take place from Monday through Friday, Jan. 9 to 20, on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting, for road resurfacing work.

• A single lane closure of Halaulani Place in Kalihiwai will take place on Jan. 13, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting, for road resurfacing work.
