Kawaihau Seniors stung on Saturday

KAPA‘A — The championship game for the Hawai‘i Little League Seniors state contest will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday at the baseball field at Kapa‘a High School.

Honolulu secured a berth in the title game on Saturday after picking up its second straight victory with a 4-2 win over host Kawaihau Seniors. Honolulu secured a victory on the tournament’s opening day with a win over Central Maui.

Tied 2-2 in the fifth inning, Honolulu made its move by having designated hitter C. Silva take the place of Payton Nasu with no outs recorded. A Kawaihau miscue on a Logan Akaka bunt saw Silva break the 2-2 stalemate and give Honolulu the go-ahead. Ace Arizumi scored on an Alika Ahu play for the 4-2 go-ahead.

Kawaihau, with six more outs to answer, came up short in the sixth and seventh frames, leaving three runners on base before the final out was recorded.

Kawaihau’s first venture onto the fields came on Saturday where it lost its tournament opener to Honolulu. Following that loss, the host Kawaihau was scheduled to face Central Maui with the winner advancing to face Honolulu in the championship fight.

The title contest for the Hawai‘i Little League 50/70 Tournament is scheduled to take place on Monday starting at noon at the Pony baseball field in the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.

Host Kawaihau, opened its title bid with an 8-5 win over Central Maui on Friday, advancing to face Pearl City, a 13-3 winner over Hilo on Friday, on Saturday afternoon.
