LIHU‘E — Tuesday, the Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported 10 new cases of COVID-19.
These cases consist of nine residents and one visitor. Of the 10 new cases, seven are adults and three are children. Three of the cases are related to travel – two mainland and one interisland. The remaining seven cases are considered community-acquired. Six of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of previously announced cases. The remaining community-acquired case has no known source of infection.
All active cases are in isolation, and close contacts are being identified, offered testing, and directed to quarantine. Investigations are ongoing.
Tuesday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 64, with two hospitalized, and 631 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 580 confirmed locally, six probable, and 45 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.
Statewide, the Department of Health reported 389 new infections and one additional COVID-related death. These numbers are representative of cases reported to the department on Sunday, Aug. 1.
Officials reported that, as of data collected Sunday, the department had counted 5,330 new test results, which correlates to a 7.3% positivity rate.
Across the state, there is a reported 3,802 active cases.
