LIHUE — A permit must be obtained from the Kauai Fire Department by Tuesday, Dec. 31, to purchase and ignite firecrackers on New Year’s Eve.
Officials are advising the public to purchase permits now, to ensure that a permit can be issued in time for their New Year’s Eve celebrations. Fireworks and firecrackers may only be ignited on private property between 9 p.m. on Dec. 31, and 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Applications are available at KFD headquarters at the Lihue Civic Center, weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The cost of a fireworks permit is $25. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
