KFD rescues visitor on Kalalau Trail Friday

KALALAU — First responders rescued an injured 56-year-old California hiker on the Kalalau Trail on Friday.

Personnel with the Kaua‘i Fire Department including the rescue helicopter and American Medical Response responded to the incident.

According to preliminary reports, around 3:45 p.m. on Friday, first responders received a call of an injured hiker on the Kalalau Trail.

The helicopter arrived on the scene around 5 p.m. and found the injured hiker in the vicinity of Ho‘olulu falls. First responders extracted the injured hiker and transported him to a landing zone at Princeville Airport to await Hanalei firefighters and AMR personnel.

AMR treated the hiker while on transport to the Wilcox Medical Center emergency room in Lihu‘e.
