LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure in Lihu‘e early Tuesday morning.
No injuries were reported. Officials estimated about $10,000 in damages.
According to a preliminary report, firefighters responded to a report of a building fire in a single-story dwelling on Elima Street in Lihu‘e around 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday.
Personnel from the Lihu‘e and Kapa‘a fire stations, rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e station and the KFD Fire Prevention Bureau, KFD battalion chief and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident.
Upon arrival, around 12:30 a.m., fire personnel discovered a single-story home with light smoke.
The occupants of the one-story dwelling were not home at the time of arrival.
Upon further investigation of the area, fire personnel discovered heavy smoke throughout the home. Firefighters were able to gain entry into the dwelling and extinguish a piece of furniture. Firefighters advanced further into the home and were not able to find other hotspots.
After the fire was controlled, firefighters used ventilation fans to assist with ventilation. Thereafter, personnel with the KFD Fire Prevention Bureau began their investigation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
