KIFB, East Kauai Lions Club Foundation hosts food distribution

LIHUE — The Kauai Independent Food Bank, with the help of community volunteers, will host a food distribution on a first come, first served basis on Wednesday, starting from 1 p.m. at the Kauai Veterans Center on Veterans Memorial Highway.

“This is the final big food distribution before Thanksgiving,” said Kelvin Moniz, the KIFB executive director. “Of course, we always have emergency food for those who need help.”

Coinciding with the distribution whose contents are family-oriented, the East Kauai Lions Club, in collaboration with the Kukui Grove Center and Times Supermarket, hosted a one-day food drive on Saturday. Moniz was on hand to receive an award from the East Kauai Lions Club Foundation for at least $500 to help with the upcoming distribution as well as the KIFB needs.

Another Lions Club, the Kauai Lions Club, were alongside Safeway Store employees soliciting shopper contributions to the Safeway Challenge drive at the Hokulei Shopping Village and the Kauai Village Shopping Center.

“I don’t know who’s where,” said Tisha Remigio, the assistant director at the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai that was, with the help of several volunteer groups such as the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association, Kauai Chapter, hosting a food distribution at the Kauai Community College. “Normally, we get some Lions helping, but they’re helping Safeway today.”
