Koloa man faces eight charges

LIHU‘E — A Koloa man was arraigned in District Court of the Fifth Circuit Wednesday morning on eight criminal charges including attempted kidnapping and terroristic threatening.

The Kauai Poice Department arrested Tyrone Strong McCarthy II Sunday afternoon.

McCarthy will also face charges of burglary of a dwelling during an emergency period, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and theft in the fourth degree.

Additional include criminal property damage and third-degree assault, according to the complaint filed by the court.

Bail is set at $140,000.

According to the complaint, McCarthy unlawfully remained or entered the victim’s residence on Maka Road in Kalaheo, during an emergency period proclaimed by the governor or mayor, according to Hawai‘i Revised Statutes Chapter 127 A, with alleged attempt to commit the crime.

McCarthy allegedly attempted to restrain and threaten his victim in a manner that interfered with the victim’s liberty. McCarthy is accused of threatening the victim, by word or conduct, to cause bodily injury or use a dangerous instrument, the complaint stated.

There was an additional charge of knowingly and intentionally causing bodily harm to the victim in the complaint.

McCarthy allegedly took control of a propelled vehicle without the consent of the alleged victim.

The complaint stated McCarthy intentionally did damage to property without consent, which led to criminal damage to property in the fourth degree.

McCarthy will have a preliminary hearing on Friday, Sept. 4.
