Kona motorcyclist dies in Napo‘opo‘o crash

A 29-year-old Kailua-Kona man died Saturday following a single-vehicle collision on Pu‘u Honua Road in Napo‘opo‘o.

The man has been positively identified as Kalamaokalani Keith Kelekolio-Crivello.

Responding to a 6:36 p.m. call, police determined that Kelekolio-Crivello was operating a white 2005 Honda CBR600 motorcycle heading south when he ran off of the roadway and lost control, striking several large rocks before being ejected, according to reports. He was transported to the Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m.

According to police, Kelekolio-Crivello was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police believe that speed and impairment are possible factors. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and is asking possible witnesses contact Officer Jason Foxworthy at 326-4646 ext. 229 or email at Jason.foxworthy@hawaiicounty.gov. Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.

This is the 18th traffic fatality this year compared to 13 at this time last year.
