PUHI — Patsy Rapozo had a new car to load, Wednesday, during the ‘Aina Ho‘okupu O Kilauea produce box deliveries by the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League.
“It’s supposed to be able to hold the same amount,” Rapozo said. “I checked it out. I took off from work for two hours so I could do all the running around to get the deliveries done.”
Wednesday marked the final delivery by KPWFL officials, parents, and families following several months of distributing ‘Aina Ho‘okupu o Kilauea (AHK) produce boxes to kupuna and community families.
“This is the last hurrah for the produce boxes,” said Coach Teddy Arroyo, president of the KPWFL. “But this does not stop the spirit of giving back for the KPWFL board members and families. We have more things lined up for September, and October.”
“I want to thank the KPWFL board members, the families, and the community for the support of Pop Warner football for the past 58 years,” Arroyo said. “This was the time we need to give back. Thank you to AHK for allowing us to help the community — to see and experience all those smiling kupuna was very gratifying.”
The delivery of 200 AHK produce boxes under CARES Act grants went off without a hitch, even being able to fit the 30 boxes into Rapozo’s new ride.
“As one door closes, another one opens,” Arroyo said. “We’re going to continue and support the community that supports us.”
The KPWFL Pop Warner football season is currently “on hold” due to the pandemic, and the KPWFL board members and associations take advantage of having the downtime to perform more community service.
