Kukui Grove’s full plate for Halloween

LIHU‘E — The Kukui Grove Center discovered 200 treat bags for Halloween, and will be distributing the bounty to the first 200 keiki who register to receive the goodie bags through its website, kukuigrovecenter.com/events.

“Register early” is the suggestion from Melissa McFerrin-Warrack, Kukui Grove events coordinator.

“There is only a limited amount of these special treat bags, and even if you don’t make it, there will be lots of things happening on Halloween where people enjoying Halloween can pick up special prizes.”

The Kukui Grove Center Halloween Festival, themed “Youth Time, Your Way,” presents a variety of socially-distanced programs adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines through Saturday, when the festivities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with treat and craft giveaways, the Soul Fire Stiltwalkers, selfie stations and more.

One of the places where keiki can score treats is at Kaua‘i Bakery, where keiki in costume get free cake pops and the rest of the family can enjoy treats from a selection of Halloween-themed baked goods.

During the Spooky Shop &Dine Promo that ends on Halloween, shoppers earn a $20 dining gift card to any Kukui Grove restaurant after spending $150 at any of the mall’s retailers.

Jaslyn Aquias loves her devil’s horns because she’s got spice, McFerrin-Warrack said. Aquias was one of the many shoppers taking part in the Virtual Halloween Costume Contest, where shoppers get to photograph themselves in costume at the shopping center (hint, the selfie stations make great backdrops) and submit the photographs to KONG Radio, where they have an opportunity to win prizes from mall merchants through Halloween.

Aquias was one of the first winners drawn daily by the KONG Radio crew. She was joined by Lyric Kalaluhi, whose Princess Jasmine “all sparkly” wings were carefully concealed until she unfolded them at the selfie station.

Freaky Friday is a fundraiser for the Aloha Dance Studio, which utilizes proceeds to help fund its dancers’ off-island competitions.

Starting two weeks ago with the “It’s Halloween!” announcement, the studio unveils its zombies Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. as an announcement of the Saturday excitement. Freaky Friday also features selected seasonally-themed stations, including the sale of Halloween novelties and a fishpond.
