Kukuiula campaign takes a bite out of hunger

PUHI — Tisha Remigio, the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai Impact Manager, said The Club at Kukuiula food drive held in December was a huge success because of the more than 10,000 meals that resulted from the collection, and the $80,000 from the fund to support the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai School Pantry Program.

The Hawaii Foodbank Kauai also released the winners of the Kukuiula Festive Parade of Homes campaign that picked up their respective prizes at the Puhi facility.

Shawna Tamayose was the grand prize winner of a one 2-night stay at The Lodge at Kukuiula, and Haunani Sullivan won a round of golf for four, plus cart and lunch at Kukuiula.

Jennifer Bramlette won one 90-minute spa treatment at Hiilani Spa at Kukuiula, and Chris Basler won the Kukuiula golf gift pack.

Therese Jasper won a Kukuiula Discovery Pack, and Susan Higgins was the winner of a signed Mike Coots “Shark” book.

“Growing up on Kauai, giving back to my community became a core part of who I am,” Tamayose said. “Today, I honor that commitment by dedicating a portion of my profits to charities focused on ending world hunger. Supporting Hawaii Foodbank Kauai enables me to give back to the island that shaped me while championing a cause that uplifts and enriches the lives of our people.”

According to information provided by Remigio, the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai School Pantry Program gives students access to healthy snacks during the day, plus important food to take home to their families every weekend.

Currently, the School Pantry Program is in all 16 Department of Education schools throughout Kauai, including on Niihau.

Additionally, the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai serves two charter schools — the Kawaikini New Century Public Charter School and the Kanuikapono Public Charter School.
