Organizers of the inaugural Kupuna Spelling Bee presented by Alaska Airlines to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Hawaii are seeking volunteers to serve as spelling bee pronouncers for upcoming preliminary events to be held in late June and early July. Pronouncers at the spelling bee events will announce the spelling words and provide all the information a speller can receive about each word: its origin, its grammatical part of speech, and an example of its use in a sentence.
Individuals 60 years and older who are interested in competing in the upcoming Kupuna Spelling Bee may still register by visiting www.kupunaspellingbee.com. To participate, all registrants are asked to make a $10 registration donation. All proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Hawaii.
1st and 2nd place winners from preliminary contests will be eligible to compete in the Kupuna Spelling Bee finals competition to be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022. The grand prize winner will receive a trip for two to any destination Alaska Airlines flies, as well as a 5-day, 4-night stay at the California Hotel in Las Vegas. All finalists will receive a trophy, gift card or other prizes.
