L. Summerhays leads the Voyagers

PO‘IPU — Island School’s Lucas Summerhays parred the front nine of the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course Saturday during a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf match.

Playing under brisk trade winds, Summerhays went on to finish with the day’s low, 79, to lead the Island School boys team to a total 351 over the Kaua‘i High School boys team’s 380. The Red Raiders’ efforts were sparked by the combined efforts of JV Sibuma, who fired a 91, and Carson Oyama, who finished with a 93.

Waimea failed to get the minimum number of golfers to qualify for team competition. Ty Tsukayama, rebounding from a Friday night boys volleyball contest, led the Menehune with a 92.

Top individualist from Kapa‘a High School was Cody Yadao, who finished at 103.

Ema-Lani Ebesu was the top individualist from Island School among the girls, firing a 98.

Kaua‘i High School was the sole team competitor among the girls, finishing with a 295, led by Samantha Murphy’s 93.

One more round remains before the KIF golfers participate in the state qualifying rounds that come up starting April 29 at Wailua Golf Course.

This Saturday’s KIF golf match takes place at Wailua Golf Course, with the first groups teeing off at noon.
