On the abandoned vehicle epidemic

It was great for The Garden Island newspaper to acknowledge this problem on our beautiful island. The fact that people do this makes me think they have absolutely no respect for Hawaii and Kauai and do not belong here.

So how do we stop these losers doing it? I think once the vehicle’s owner is known, pursue them, and if they can be found, put a flag on them and make it impossible to renew their license or register a vehicle in Hawaii or the U.S.

They obviously don’t realize that owning and operating a vehicle is a privilege, not entitlement. We drove to work from Kalaheo to Kilauea last week and counted five abandoned vehicles with citations posted. This is absolutely unacceptable and an eyesore to our aina.

The county and state can only do so much, but until their is a new regulation or punishment for these losers then Kauai will be littered with vehicles by people who don’t give a s#@*& about this magical island … Make these people accountable!
