Local group to look at military impact on climate Jan. 12

LIHU‘E — On Wednesday at 6 p.m., the Kaua‘i Climate Action Forum will present an online program on the U.S. military and its role in the climate crisis.

Lisa Savage, co-founder of the Maine Natural Guard, will make a presentation, followed by a panel discussion, question-and-answer session and a general discussion among participants and the guest speakers.

The all-Hawai‘i panel includes Koohan Paik-Mander, journalist, international activist and coauthor of “The Superferry Chronicles;” Ann Wright, retired colonel, U.S. diplomat and co-author of “Dissent: Voices of Conscience;” and Kip Godwin, a peace and justice activist.

The U.S. military is the largest greenhouse-gas emitter in the world, yet it is exempt from climate negotiations, according to Kaua‘i Climate Action Coalition.
